Have you ever wondered why people from uniformed groups are so attach to their CCA?
Why are we scare of dropping our uniform parts? Why are we always in a hurry to change during CCA day? It’s all because of discipline. As an uniformed group, we are expected to be train to be punctual and responsible for our work. Our uniform is our responsibility, all of us have one set, for St john we have white shirt and black skirts for girls while black pants for guys. As we constantly are exposed under the hot scorching sun in the afternoon during trainings, we need a protection over our head. This is my topic for today. My beret, to others my beret might just be a little black hat that we put on for show to us it is our protection and it is our honour and it is an acknowledgment of being in st john.
Like all uniform parts, the beret is not allowed to touch the ground and for dropping it. The whole division will be punished for one person’s mistake. Be it jumping jacks or pumping, none of us wants to get other in trouble therefore we tried our best to take good care of it but occasionally one or two of us might just accidentally drop it. For me, it happened quite a few times due to my carelessness. All the rushing around and looking for things got me busy and led to my carelessness. Every time it dropped, I will panic but thanks to all those who were there for me, they helped calm me down and look for it but to no avail. Still we have to face the music, as an easy crier, when we were punished, I would feel the guilt in me and my tears would just flow out even after constant reassurance from my friends that it’s ok. At times others drop things too but all of us would not hold it against them as we knew it is not their wish to get us in trouble. All for one, one for all, it is something very true about St john after going through the punishments and fun times together in St john.
As we were punished, the encouragements that came from the heart pulled us through and from here our bonds were strengthen. Although we might not be the best but our spirits are still there. I know through thick or thin I could count on these friends that I have made here. They filled my life with their big smiles and hugs; we went through doing eggs for competitors, playing at pulua ubin together, trainings together, camps together, CIP duties together. Half of my life is filled with them and memories that we created, like my senior said, St John can do without us but we cannnot do without St John.
Back to topic, as we sweat, our beret will absorb all of it and as time goes all the sweat accumulated will remind us of the hardships of St John and how we have been through them as a whole. We are tough people we lasted through all the trainings without giving up. On the surface you might think that St John is all about first aid and home nrsing but to us it it something more. It is like our family, the brothers and sisters we made and memories that we shared will forever be engraved in our hearts. Even as we leave this school, we will still come back just because of our passion for St John will never dies. The beret reminds me of everything about St John Life. The fun happy times we have together doing performance or doing proposals and of course the hard times during trainings and how each and everyone of us had help each other. The beret itself is cheap but the memories it holds are priceless.
i love you;
